Petone

Wesley Residence

Completed

Built in 1883, the Wesley Church in Petone had sat unused since being deemed an earthquake risk in 2013. Purchased with the vision of giving it new life, the historic building has been transformed into three luxury two-storey residences, inspired by the restored colonial villas of Ponsonby.

Working closely with Heritage New Zealand, the original façade and roofline were meticulously restored, while the interior was rebuilt to accommodate modern living. Each residence offers three bedrooms, two bathrooms, open-plan living, and a single garage, with unique design features such as repurposed leadlight windows, dramatic double-height voids, and private courtyards.

The result is a heritage renovation and residential architecture development that honours the church’s origins while introducing contemporary architecture, earning national recognition with multiple awards from ADNZ and Master Builders in 2019.
