Pattie Street

Completed

Once home to the Corps of Royal New Zealand Engineers and the Royal Regiment of New Zealand Artillery, the historic Pattie Street Barracks has been reimagined into a unique six-bedroom family property. Our design focused on restoring energy and creating modern entertainment spaces, while respecting the building’s heritage.

The former mess hall was transformed into a vibrant hub, featuring a pair of 13m recessed cavity doors that open the entire area to the outdoors. New amenities — including a changing room, shower, and toilet — ensure pool users can access facilities without passing through the main house. A self-cleaning heated pool, artificial turf, and evergreen planting provide a low-maintenance outdoor environment.

Inside, entertainment was prioritised with a dedicated games room, a lounge with a wall-mounted screen for movies, and integrated inbuilt speakers. A sunken spa and built-in barbecue add a touch of luxury, creating a modern family retreat designed for relaxation,  entertaining, and lasting memories. This project was recognised with a Gold Award and Regional Lifestyle Award at the 2020 Registered Master Builders House of the Year.
