Marine Parade

Completed

Located on a quiet street in one of Lower Hutt’s most desirable seaside suburbs, this home renovation was designed to maximise its connection to the harbour, where the sound of waves provides a constant backdrop. The extensive architectural renovation introduced modern living spaces and a strong visual link to the sea, reflecting the owners’ lifestyle while respecting the coastal setting.

A striking second-storey addition, inspired by the form of a wharenui, offers panoramic ocean views and a maahau (veranda-like space) for an intimate connection with the water. This retreat-like upper level includes its own lounge, kitchenette, bathroom, and flexible guest accommodation, providing privacy and versatility.

Downstairs, open-plan living is anchored by a designer kitchen, American oak flooring, and a dramatic black feature wall, all flowing to a private courtyard for outdoor entertaining. Random width cedar cladding adds texture and depth to the façade, tying the design to its coastal environment. This project received multiple awards at the 2018 Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards, showcasing Moore Design’s expertise in coastal residential architecture and bespoke renovation design.
